Iron Flame
Rebecca Yarros

"You must save yourself... I chose you not as my next but as my last, and should you fall, then I will follow."
Iron Flame, the second book in the Empyrean series, follows Violet fighting various battles. Second-year classes, prospects of war, secrets, relationship problems. How could one person juggle all of these things and remain human? Not to mention moody dragons constantly complaining in your head!
Second-year at Basgiath begins rough for Violet immediately following graduation. Xaden is graduating, where will he go? How will Tairn and Sgaeyl stand to be apart for long? Where is Andarna? On top of all of this, there is a new Vice Commandant who has a personal vendetta against Violet. So many secrets and rumors swirling around that threaten everyone's trust.
Rebecca Yarros did it again! Another 5-star from me! Both Fourth Wing and Iron Flame live in my head rent-free daily. There are several aspects of the story that I think about and different ideas that make me question others' motives. Not to mention the several plot twists that sent a plethora of emotions through my body. Anger, rage, love, sadness, excitement, and determination to name a few. I can honestly say I can not wait to get word of book three.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loved the first one and is invested in the story and characters. One disclaimer before tackling this emotional rollercoaster is that several triggering events occur that are described vividly. For example, torture comes into play as our beloved cast of characters move into more advanced classes.
